Moira Hammond

Moira is one of our volunteers who visits patients in hospital to provide them with advice and reassurance following surgery. She herself was visited in the same way and so knows from experience how, for some people, such visits are vital in helping them to come to terms with their stoma.

Like our other volunteers who do visits, Moira works closely with the hospital’s stoma care nurses as they are aware of each individual patient’s needs and can judge the level of advice and support required. For Moira the power that the role has to transform is the most rewarding. She takes great pleasure seeing ‘the change that occurs from someone being frightened and confused about their stoma to a degree of acceptance and understanding’.
