Cooper Lowry is six years old and he has a stoma due to having  slow transit bowel.

He and his parents Simon and Zoey first found out about Team Colostomy UK through our captain Tom whom he met at a Leeds Rhinos junior PDRL session.

Cooper was invited to be our team mascot when we played BARA at Batley Bulldogs in June this year.

We met a very brave but shy young man who led us on to the pitch on a day when nearly 3,000 spectators descended on the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium, no mean feat for a six year old!

Since that day, Cooper has been a regular at our games and has become part of our team. Not only did he led us on to the pitch again against Bradford Bulls and Chorley Panthers, but he also played against Chorley scoring two tries! (Thanks Panthers! )

Life can be quite challenging as a young boy with a stoma, so we asked Zoey how being a part of the Purps has impacted Cooper. She said.

“Cooper loves being a part of Team Colostomy UK because everyone makes him feel a part of the family, his confidence has grown leaps and bounds since joining the them.

He loves playing rugby with people who have stomas like him, showing nothing should hold you back from doing something you love . He’s met so many new friends though the team, and loves cheering the team on and even scoring a cheeky Try or two. Cooper can’t wait to join up with the Purps again next season!”

We love having Cooper as part of our team along side our other young team mates like Jessica, and Jasper. It’s humbling for us to have the opportunity to have a positive influence on their young lives.
