Stomas Unlocked: Our 2026 Stoma Aware Day Campaign

We’ve got some really exciting news to share, and we want you to be the first to hear about it.

We’ve launched our 2026 Stoma Aware Day campaign, Stomas Unlocked. The big day takes place on October 3rd, but you can find out what it’s all about and how you can get involved now. Read on for more.

Building on Stoma MythBusters

We are building on the success of last year’s campaign, Stoma MythBusters, which addressed misconceptions of life with a stoma.

This year, however, Stomas Unlocked takes things one step further, by moving beyond awareness to active support, through three key themes:

1. Unlocking Understanding

Through our Unlock Your Story initiative, we will be sharing insights from people living with a stoma which reflect the challenges and achievements of everyday life.

Our Unlock Your Venue challenge will encourage establishments to become stoma friendly.

2. Unlocking Support

Support can make a huge difference to someone’s confidence and wellbeing.

We will be shining a spotlight on the importance of support, and exploring new ways to help people connect with the information, services and community available through Colostomy UK.

3. Unlocking Choice

Many people living with a stoma don’t realise the choices available to them when it comes to things such as stoma products, delivery suppliers, or how to take an active role in decisions about their care and support.

We want to boost awareness of stoma care rights, promote shared decision-making, and build confidence to self-advocate in healthcare settings.
