Debbie Meredith: Support Co-ordinator

Debbie Meredith
Debbie, 52, has been married for thirty years and is a proud mum to two grown-up daughters, as well as the owner of a lively Cockapoo named Maisie. She began volunteering with Colostomy UK in February 2023 and joined the charity as a staff member in January 2025.

Her previous career includes roles in market research for an IT company (where she met her husband), customer support with NTL, and eleven years as a primary school teaching assistant. Following an initial Stage 3 and later Stage 4 rectal cancer diagnosis, along with several operations, Debbie now lives with two permanent stomas – a colostomy and a urostomy -earning her the affectionate nickname “Debbie Double Bagger.” She enjoys theatre, music, travelling, and relaxing at home in her hot tub with a gin and tonic.

Her mission with the charity is to support, empower, and advocate for people living with stomas, helping them to see that a full, meaningful life is not only possible but worth embracing. She actively contributes to forums with healthcare organisations and London airports, serving as an ambassador within the stoma community.

Debbie works 2.5 days a week providing key admin and coordination support for our stoma services, including answering helpline calls, volunteer coordination, CRM management, responding to inbox and live chat messages, processing literature orders, and taking on the many other tasks that come her way.
