Westquay becomes the latest entertainment venue to adopt Stoma Friendly toilets!

22 February, 2024

With over ninety stores and dozens of eateries in the heart of Southampton, Westquay is one of the go to entertainment destinations on the South Coast.

It should now also become a most visit destination for people living with a stoma following the news that they have begun to introduce Stoma Friendly toilets starting with on Level 1 in Westquay North.

General Manager Laura Read explained why Westquay had signed up to the Stoma Friendly toilets campaign.

‘At Westquay, we are keen to ensure that everyone can visit our destination without anxiety or concern that we will not have the suitable facilities for them to enjoy their day. By highlighting that we have stoma-friendly conveniences, we hope that it will give confidence to those visiting us who otherwise might have thought twice about it.

We understand that not every disability is visible and with the support of Colostomy UK, we can start to educate the public about the needs of those with stomas. The comfort, accessibility and inclusion of our destination is a top priority. ‘

Giovanni Cinque, Marketing and Campaigns Manager for Colostomy UK welcomed the announcement.

‘Lack of suitable toilet facilities is a form of social exclusion for many people living with a stoma. It stops them doing many of the things that most of us take for granted, like visiting a shopping centre. We’re delighted that Westquay have joined our Stoma Friendly campaign and encourage other organisations to do the same to support the 200,000 plus people in the UK for whom this is such an important change’.
