Since 2015, we’ve delivered our Caring for a Person with a Stoma Workshop to those who deliver stoma care inside and out of the home. Caring for someone with a stoma can present both practical and emotional challenges. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, family member, friend, or unpaid carer, the right knowledge and support can make a meaningful difference.

Why should I take this training?
This workshop is designed for health and social care professionals who deliver stoma care in or out of the home. It is suitable for people with little or no previous training, as well as those who need a refresher. Without proper training, professionals can lack confidence in managing stomas, which can increase the risk of leakage, skin irritation, infection, and reduced dignity and comfort for patients.
What’s covered in the workshop?
The session will cover understanding stoma formation and anatomy, the different types of stoma bags and how to change them, common stoma-related challenges, concerns and lifestyle adjustments, the physical and psychological issues connected with having a stoma, and will conclude with a Q&A session with a stoma nurse.
I provide stoma care/support at home or I want to find out more about how to support a loved one. Am I suitable for the workshop?
Colostomy UK runs 3 free stoma care workshop per year for people who provide unpaid care and support in the home. Please see our available dates above.
I want to train one member of staff. How to access the course?
Organisations that do not require a group booking, can book on a staff member our planned workshops throughout the year. Please see the available dates above.
Is this a qualification in stoma care?
The workshop equates to 1.5 CPD points. CPD accreditation recognises the educational value of this workshop for professional and personal development. It should not be considered a formal qualification in stoma care.
Do you offer train the trainer?
No, we do not offer a train the trainer style workshop.
