Strawberry Field is now Stoma friendly!

For the more than 200,000 people in the UK living with a stoma, days out can often involve careful planning, anxiety and uncertainty – not because of the destination itself, but because of the fear of unsuitable toilet facilities. Far too often, accessible toilets still fail to meet the needs of people living with a stoma, despite simple adaptations having the power to transform confidence and dignity.

That’s why Strawberry Field’s new improvements mean so much.

Small Changes, Big Impact

Strawberry Field already offered a thoughtful accessible toilet space with a full-length mirror – a vital feature for stoma care. Now, they have introduced three key additions that align with our national Stoma Friendly Toilet guidelines:

• A dedicated shelf for laying out supplies safely and hygienically
• Hooks to keep clothing and bags off the floor
• A disposal bin inside the cubicle for discreet waste disposal

These may seem like modest additions, but for people living with a stoma they can make the difference between an enjoyable day out and a stressful one. These features support privacy, comfort, and independence – values at the heart of what we advocate for every day.

Why This Matters

We regularly hear from people living with a stoma who experience anxiety when travelling, shopping or visiting attractions due to poor or unsuitable toilet facilities. Some avoid going out entirely.

By committing to stoma friendly features, Strawberry Field is helping to remove those barriers and is sending a clear message: everyone is welcome here.
