Bramall Lane Scores with Inclusivity: Sheffield United Becomes Stoma Friendly
Sheffield United Football Club, in partnership with national charity Colostomy UK, is proud to announce that Bramall Lane has officially been recognised as a Stoma Friendly venue, with newly designated toilets to better support fans living with a stoma.
The initiative ensures that supporters and visitors with a stoma can enjoy matchdays and events at Bramall Lane with dignity, comfort, and confidence. The newly equipped toilets include shelves, hooks, and disposal facilities to meet the practical needs of people living with a stoma, along with clear signage to indicate accessibility.
Colostomy UK, the leading charity supporting people with stomas across the country, has been working with Sheffield United to promote awareness, reduce stigma, and improve facilities in public venues.
Giovanni Cinque, Marketing & Campaigns Manager at Colostomy UK, said: “We’re delighted that Bramall Lane has joined our Stoma Friendly initiative. For many people, something as simple as going to a football match can be daunting if the right facilities aren’t available. Sheffield United’s commitment shows the club truly values all supporters. With an estimated 1,750 people living with a stoma in Sheffield, and over 4,000 in South Yorkshire, we hope many of them will be encouraged to attend a game.”
Jon Helliwell, Sheffield United’s Supporter Liaison & Disability Access Manager, added: “We’re thrilled to partner with Colostomy UK to ensure that a number of our accessible toilets at Bramall Lane are stoma friendly, and to be able to continue to improve accessibility at Sheffield United for all of our supporters. With over an estimated 100 supporters living with a stoma attending Bramall Lane on a matchday, we hope these new facilities will help provide a much more welcoming and comfortable matchday fan experience.”
Bramall Lane joins a growing list of UK venues committed to Colostomy UK’s Stoma Friendly campaign, ensuring that no one will feel excluded from public life due to living with a stoma.
