Access coronavirus support as a clinically extremely vulnerable person

If you have a medical condition which makes you extremely vulnerable to coronavirus (COVID-19), register and tell the government whether or not you need support.

You may have received a letter from the NHS telling you that you’re clinically extremely vulnerable, or been contacted by your GP or hospital clinician. If this has not happened by Monday 30 March, contact your GP or clinician after you register with this service.

It may take time for any support offered through this service to arrive. Wherever possible you should continue to rely on friends, family and wider support to help you meet your needs.

You can register yourself, or on behalf of someone else.

Before you start – you’ll be asked for your NHS number but you can still register if you do not have it. You can find it on any letter the NHS has sent you or on a prescription.

If you have Crohn’s or Colitis

The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), have put together specific guidance for people with Crohn’s and Colitis to be used by gastroenterologists, IBD nurses and other members of IBD health teams.
Highest risk – the government advises people in this group to follow strict self-isolation guidelines for at least 12 weeks
Moderate risk – government advice for people in this category is to strictly follow social distance guidelines
Lower risk – this is the same level of risk as for the general population. Everyone is advised to follow the government’s advice on social distancing, avoiding social gatherings and crowded places and working from home if you can.
You may be contacted by the NHS about being in the highest risk group. However, it is important you do not wait for contact before reading the guidance, assessing your risk and take the action you need

Updates from stoma care companies

A lot of the stoma care companies are postponing their events, we have already withdrawn our own volunteers from these events until the end of April (we will do our best to keep our open days section on our website up-to-date.)

The day-to-day situation and needs associated with the spread of COVID-19 continues to evolve and bring unique and individual challenges for all of us. We share in your many concerns and we are determined to be here for you and available to assist with your product questions and needs.

These are the facts that we know are important for you to hear from us:

  •  At this time, we are fully operational, and we do not anticipate the pandemic to have any impact on our ability to supply our ostomy products to current customers or others in need.
  •  Our customer service teams are enabled to work from home so they can shelter in place while continuing to be available to respond to your product questions and needs.
  •  Our manufacturing facilities located in Denmark, Ireland, Lithuania, and the United States continue to work diligently to meet ongoing supply needs. We have instituted many US and European Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, and local government guidelines, to help keep our Associates out of harm’s way while they continue to work in our facilities.

Following the governments announcement, we know that you may be worried and wondering about how this could affect your essential supplies. Rest assured, we have plans in place to ensure we can run as normal a service as possible.

Coloplast Charter staff have been given key worker status, as an essential healthcare provider. UPS, our delivery agent, also has key worker status, so they can continue delivering your supplies.  We also want to reassure you that we are looking after our amazing staff too. We continue to keep them as safe as possible with almost all the Customer Care team now working from home.

We would like to ask you to continue to place your order when you usually would and for the usual amount. This helps everyone get through more easily when they need to. We have stock and our staff are working hard to take your orders. We have managed to increase our staff levels to support you at this time, however you may experience some slightly longer wait times than usual due to the number of calls coming through, so thank you in advance for your patience.

If you have a stoma and have your ostomy bags cut to size, we are still offering this service and aim to cut your bags as quickly as possible. Again, due to large order volumes we have seen recently this may take a couple of days longer than usual.

We understand that many of our customers may be concerned with regards to the current coronavirus situation, and whether you can expect to receive your products as normal. Following on from the announcement by the Government to stay at home for the next few weeks, we just wanted to reassure you that your supplies will continue to be delivered.

Delivery drivers delivering medical supplies are exempt from the ban on movement. This means we will continue to deliver your supplies to your door. There will be no requirement to sign for deliveries to ensure a contactless process to keep you safe.

There is no need to order more than you need or usually would. Our phone lines are busy as you would expect, if you want to place an order and are having difficulty getting through, you can email your request through to us at enquiry@amcaregroup.co.uk. We are checking emails every hour.

Following the recent guidelines on social distancing in the Prime Minister’s statement, we have made the decision to work from home where we can.  All office based employees will be working from home to ensure we can provide a service without disruption. The Skipton team that manufacture and supply these essential ostomy products are ensuring that they are adhering to the guidelines whilst still fulfilling orders.
