Ian Jackson – Northamptonshire

Originally from Chorley in Lancashire, Ian has lived most of his life in Northampton. He left school at 16 to do an engineering apprenticeship and has worked in mechanical engineering ever since.

Ian was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2011 and had a permanent colostomy later that year. Soon after surgery, Ian joined Colostomy UK’s Facebook Group. He became a group admin in 2014. Shortly afterwards he became one of our helpline operators as well as joining the ‘Tidings’ editorial team. Ian is an irrigator and feels that this has helped him to regain control of his life. He believes that all those who are suitable should be encouraged and supported to give it a go.
